With a wide variety of exhibitors, friendly advice, demonstrations throughout the day, and special discounts on offer, couples had the opportunity to organise their wedding in a day – from engagement to honeymoon and beyond.

The price of entry was a gold coin donation to Breast Cancer Support Services and the brides to be, with their fiancés, families and friends, raised over $2000 for the charity.

Lucy Dillon for Brides is also the organiser of the Mackay Wedding Showcase, scheduled to be held on the first Sunday in August this year.

History

Mackay's longest running bridal fair was first held in 1987 at the old Harbour Lights Restaurant at the Mackay Outer Harbour. At that first Bridal Fair, co-ordinators Russ, Bev and Murray McLay wanted to “assist couples in the preparation … (of) a successful and memorable wedding day” by providing a service to the Mackay region found only in larger metropolitan centres at the time. The McLays vision of “a one-stop advisory service” with “all the things needed for the bride … under one roof” is continued in Mackay’s Premier Annual Bridal Fair.
